The Daily Courier The roar was deafening when the results “YES and YES” were shouted out across the room. The crowd gathered Tuesday night at Prescott Crush was awaiting the Prescott Unified School District bond and override election results. They got what they were hoping for, after months of hard, hard work. Voters listened. Parents voted. The community came together and passed the bond and override, with a roughly 2-to-1 margin. As the new kid on the block here, I have to say I felt a part of the Prescott community at that moment. What an amazing group of volunteers who refused to let the failure of 2013 get repeated. They mobilized, formed a political action committee, recruited more help, made their voices heard through print, social media and public rallies. They knocked on doors, spoke at every conceivable gathering and wouldn’t let any falsehoods go without correcting them. I’m proud to know these people. They have their priorities in the right place, just like our voters do: Children first. Because the voters took the time to understand what was at stake, they agreed to fund the bond and override. Schools will get repaired, quality teachers hired and salaries can be raised. Frustration peaked last week when early voting numbers showed a lack of younger voters. That told us parents of the school children involved hadn’t yet voted. The supporters didn’t blink their eyes – they just redoubled their efforts all over the town to get the parents to vote. Something clicked. Thank you for voting, folks, no matter which way you voted. It’s all about making your voice heard. This is a good day for Prescott. The CODY ANNE Team
